New Delhi, Jan 2 : Multiple teams have been engaged in the investigation of Kanjhawala case wherein a 20-year-old girl died after she was allegedly hit and dragged by a car over 10-12 kms from Sultanpuri to Kanjhawala area, police said on Monday.
Delhi Police Commissioner tweeted and wrote, “The case of death of a girl on the road in Kanjhawala area of Outer Delhi is tragic. All the five main accused have been nabbed. At present, many of our teams are engaged in the investigation of the incident. Delhi Police is in constant touch with the family members of the deceased and is providing all kinds of help to them.”
Delhi Police Special Commissioner of Police, Law and Order Zone-2, Sagar Preet Hooda said in a press briefing that the forensic experts have been involved to examine the scene of crime. The teams would investigate vehicles involved in the incident and collect all the relevant evidence which would ensure successful prosecution.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has sought a detailed inquiry report into the Kanjhawala incident from Delhi Police, sources said.
Delhi Police have got three days police custody of all the five accused for further investigation. The CCTVs footage was being collected to examine them, said Hooda.
“A request has been made to the health department of Delhi government to constitute a medical board to conduct the postmortem examination of the deceased girl,” Harendra Kumar Singh, DCP Outer Delhi said in a video message.
On the Kanjhawala case, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Vinai Kumar Saxena said it was an inhuman crime.
LG tweeted and wrote, “My head hangs in shame over the inhuman crime in Kanjhawala-Sultanpuri and I am shocked at the monstrous insensitivity of the perpetrators. Have been monitoring with @CPDelhi and the accused have been apprehended. All aspects are being thoroughly looked into.”
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday demanded stringent punishment should be given to the culprits in such incidents.
Kejriwal tweeted, “Some boys dragged a girl for several kms in a car, after which the girl died. This can happen to anyone’s daughter. No matter how influential, politically connected a convict is, he should be hanged.”
“Spoke to Hon’ble LG on Kanjhawala incident. Requested him to take exemplary action against culprits, strictest sections of IPC should be slapped against them. No leniency should be shown even if they have high political connections. He assured that he will take strong action,” Kejriwal tweeted.
Meanwhile, Delhi Commission for Women Chief Swati Maliwal on Monday raised several questions to Delhi Police in the Kanjhawala case.
DCW issued summons to Delhi Police on Sunday and asked them to appear before the Commission for the purpose on January 5 and provide details, the statement stated.
Some people on Monday gathered outside Sultanpuri Police Station and held a protest over the case.
