Bhubaneswar, July 25: Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani on Tuesday convicted Bhabagrahi Samantaray, a former Assistant Engineer (Retired), RWSS Boudh and sentenced him to undergo Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) for a period of 3 years and to pay fine of Rs.5,000 for demanding and accepting bribe.
The court said in default of payment of fine, he has to undergo RI for a period of 3 months more for the offence U/s 7 Prevention of Corruption Amendment Act, 2018.
Sources said Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Bhabagrahi Samantaray following his conviction.
Samantaray was chargesheeted by Vigilance in Berhampur in February 2019 U/s 7 Prevention of Corruption Amendment Act, 2018 for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.50,000 from a complainant for preparing final bill of a solar drinking water project.
