BJP appears needlessly obsessed with Opposition unity as PM Modi derides opposition’s alliance for it’s ‘questionable’ name INDIA

By D N Singh

Strange that when the entire nation and the opposition in particular wants the PM Modi to open up on Manipur carnage, the PM has taken the recourse of the opposition unity under India banner.

Side-stepping Manipur

Far from the core issue of the lovely green valley Manipur turning red with blood shed and abuses, the BJP keeps side stepping by drawing comparisons of the INDIA banner as a copycat of Indian Mujahedeen or the East India Co of the colonial times as a means to deride the opposition unity as a non-starter.

Now the issue is Manipur and not history of the INDIA name use which is the business of the opposition or the ones used the name earlier.

The Indian People’s Front and other such organizations are surely not above scrutiny and that is being done as the lens of the law scan them.

May be the newly conceived opposition unity have the INDIA banner but how they can be seen at par with the above such organization is bit incongruous at this stage. Neither the use of word INDIA in anyway, as if, seditious.

All said and done, the word INDIA is nobody’s copyright that requires the approval of any.

Formulaic notions are entirely dispensable and even otherwise they require no grant of approval in politics.

Rebutting the Modi’s statement, the leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said, “When opposition is raising an important issue of Manipur, the Prime Minister is saying “East India Company” which is unfortunate
