AFC Women’s Asian Cup To Witness Record Match Officials
Mumbai, Jan 6: AFC Women’s Asian Cup will see the biggest-ever cast of experienced women match officials. The tournament will take place from January 20 to February 6 in three cities of Maharashtra – Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Pune.
A total of 32 match officials, comprising 16 referees and assistant referees from 15 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Member Associations, will take charge in maximum of 29 matches including the play-offs.
The match officials includes three Indians, namely Ranjita Devi Tekcham (Referee), Fernandes Uvena (Assistant Referee) and Rebello Maria Piedade (Technical Instructor).
From the contingent, as many as nine match officials were previously appointed to the FIFA Women’s World Cup2019 in France.
The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) will make its debut in the tournament from the quarter-finals as well as potential play-off matches.
An additional six video match officials will be appointed to the tournament, with the system being used across two venues in Navi Mumbai and Pune.
