Odisha Congress To Gherao Raj Bhawan On August 5

Bhubaneswar, August 3: Congress would gherao the Raj bhawan on August 5 next in protest against the anti-people policies of both the central and the Odisha government, Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Sarat Patnaik announced at a press conference here on Wednesday.

Patnaik said hundreds of party activists will gherao the Raj Bhawan in protest against rise in prices of essential commodities, hike in prices of petrol, diesel, cooking gas, unemployment, Agnipath scheme and imposition of GST on food items like molasses, flattened rice and pressed rice.

The OPCC President said in 2014 Prime Minister had promised “Achhe din“ to people but instead of a achhe din, people are leading a miserable life now.

The price of cooking gas per cylinder has increased from Rs 410 in 2014 to Rs 1080 , and the price of petrol and diesel crossed Rs 100 per litre.

The Union government, the Congress leader alleged has collected over Rs 25.50 lakh crore revenue from oil by exploiting the people

The state government,Patnaik said, is also collecting hundreds of crores of revenue by imposing VAT on petrol and diesel.

Though the prices of essential commodities have gone up neither the central government nor the state government has taken any step to check the price rise.

He said 5 percent GST was imposed on general food items but the state government did not protest against it even once.

The Congress leader said the Modi government had promised two crore jobs to the youths every year but only 7.22 lakh youths have got jobs during the last eight years.

Similarly, the state government had promised to provide two lakh jobs every year but instead of giving jobs it abolished 50 percent of the base level posts and betrayed the youths by outsourcing the jobs and giving only contractual appointments.

Patnaik said on August 5, the Congress workers would gherao the offices of the Collectors or Additional District Magistrate across the state.
