Odisha: STF Seizes Over 31 Lakh In Counterfeit Currency

Bhubaneswar: The STF with the help of Bolangir District Police uncovered a case of illegal possession and sale of counterfeit Indian currency notes (FICN) on the evening of February 1 near the main gate of the Bus Stand Park in Titlagarh under Titlagarh Police Station. One suspect, Lingaraj Behera, 50, of Kantamal in the Kalahandi district, was apprehended.

Upon searching, fake currency notes totaling Rs 31,27,500 were recovered and seized from Behera’s possession. He was unable to provide a valid reason for possessing the fake notes and was subsequently arrested and taken to court.

The STF has registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. The seized counterfeit notes will be sent to the Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudrana Pvt. Ltd. in West Bengal for examination. The investigation is ongoing.

To date, the STF has seized a total of Rs 78,70,600 in counterfeit notes, including this latest seizure.
