BJD’s Sulochana Das Takes Oath As BMC Mayor, Party Picks Manjulata Kanhar As Deputy Mayor Candidate

Bhubaneswar, Apr 9: Garnering over 1,70,000 votes, Biju Janata Dal leader Sulochana Das took oath as the Mayor of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Saturday.

Das was administered the oath by the Director of Municipal Administration, Sangramjit Nayak.

The BJD leader had won in the recent polls defeating her nearest rival Suniti Mund of the BJP by a margin of 61,143 votes. She became the first woman Mayor of the BMC.

Besides, 67 other Corporators of the BMC have also taken their oath today.

Sulochana Das started her career as a journalist. She began her political journey with the Congress and later joined the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). She also worked as the regional party’s spokesperson.

Meanwhile, the election to the Deputy Mayor of BMC will be held today.

The ruling BJD has fielded Manjulata Kanhar, Corporator of Ward no 22, as its Deputy Mayor candidate.
