Opposition leaders to support OBC bill amid continuing protests

New Delhi : Leaders of Opposition parties held another strategy meet on Monday morning, ahead of the last week of Monsoon Session, and decided to support a bill that gives states the right to make their own OBC lists.

While the Opposition parties will continue the protests on Pegasus snooping controversy, farm laws and other issues, they agreed to allow government to support The Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Seventh Amendment) Bill 2021 being introduced in Parliament today.

A Constitution Amendment Bill has to be passed by both Houses of Parliament with two-third majority.

The parties that attended the meeting included Congress, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, DMK, Trinamool Congress, NCP, Shiv Sena, Samajwadi Party, CPI(M), RJD, AAP, CPI, National Conference, IUML, LJD, RSP and KC(M).

Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge were present at the meet.
