Lucknow, Jan 31: Blaming the Modi government for the soaring prices of essential commodities, Congress leader Randeep Surjewala on Monday gave the slogan: “Defeat BJP and conquer inflation”.
Addressing a press conference here, Surjewala said: “In the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections everything is being said — from graveyard to division. But what is not discussed is what affects the lives of the people as well as the state. There is no discussion on inflation and unemployment.”
He said the prices of essential commodities have soared so much under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister AdityanathYogi that life has become difficult for thea common man.
“A LPG cylinder which cost Rs 400 during Congress government now costs Rs 1,000, edible oil costs Rs 200 a litre, pulses Rs 150 a kg, petrol Rs 100 a litre and prices of foodgrains have increased many times. While the income of farmers, middle class and workers is decreasing, the BJP’s income has zoomed from Rs 780 crore to Rs 4,850 crore.” He said every day 2.5 crore people travel by Indian Railways.
“During Congress regime, the per kilometer passenger fare was 32 paisa, which has been increased to Rs 1.10 per km. This government has hiked the freight fare and also the price of platform ticket.” The Congress spokesman said that from January 1 the government has increased goods and services tax (GST) on a number of items. He said that prices of footwear are also bound to increase as the government has hiked the GST applicable on them. “Now people have to pay additional BJP tax on delivery services, cloud kitchen and cab services. Now people will have to pay more for withdrawing cash from ATM,” he said. U
