Gallery Collapsed, Hundreds Injured In Live Match 

Mar 20: “It was unforeseen and unfortunate”, this’s what the eye-witnesses said after the incident. A temporary gallery installed at LP School ground in Kerala’s Poongod collapsed on Saturday evening during a local football match leaving over 200 people injured and 15 of them are reportedly in critical condition.

The temporary gallery with over 200 people were seen collapsed in a video and the floodlight have fallen over the people during the All India Sevens Football Tournament at Poongod in Malappuram district. People sitting on the other side of the gallery tried to save and rescue the injured.

As per local police that over 8,000 people flocked to the stadium to watch the final match of the All India Sevens Football Tournament and the east stand held over 3,000 people, which is way higher than its capacity. The accident happened just before the final match began.

Malappuram SP said that stern action will be taken against the organisers and the department will probe an investigation into the accident.

Several people who were injured were taken to Manjeri Medical College and Hospital and others were sent back home after being given first aid, said the report. The injured also included children.
