New Delhi, Feb 13 : Announced almost fours years ago ‘Atomic Heart’ has been a serious mystery with no answers, though now we are extremely close, with the release window of the game revealed to be sometime in the final four months of 2022. The trailer reveals “< < #ber 2022,” thus narrowing it to September, October, November, or December, giving the Mundfish team some time to refine and polish the game a bit longer. Russian studio Mundfish describes ‘Atomic Heart’ as “an action-packed first-person shooter set in the alternative, retro-future version of the 1950s USSR.”
In this version of the USSR, robots have been mass-produced to help on various nation-building projects, but inevitably, the robots get smarter and revolt. Hence, you end up shooting at them. Mundfish have gone on to explain that the series is inspired by the ’50s and ’60s Soviet Union, and with its robots, mutants, powers, weapons, and general aesthetic it is hard not to think of BioShock. According to Mundfish “First of all, we’ve drawn inspiration from the Soviet sci-fi and the space discovery era in the USSR. Stanislaw Lem, Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, science fiction magazine ‘Tekhnika Molodezhi’ – the ’50s–’60s era – it is the golden age in science, arts, architecture.
“We at Mundfish are huge fans of science fiction and we wanted to show this world in such a way that you would start wondering – this could all turn out to be true if the history went in a different direction. If all these Soviet robots were really created in the 50s, all the technology that resembles the early Internet – this could be interesting if one of the key global superpowers pulled ahead instead of the other during the Cold War. “‘Atomic Heart’ has several meanings, and it’s not only the machine core. It’s not only about the scientific leap. It’s also about the competition between the USSR and the United States at that time.
But we won’t say anything more than that for now! “ The new trailer provides a good look into how the combat works. The protagonist Major Nechaev can wield a familiar array of guns, but it’s his fancy glove that really stands out. With this, Nechaev can lift and suspend enemies, raise and toss them, and also just shoot at them with a laser-like projectile. Elsewhere, an upgrade tree is shown, but it’s all in Cyrillic. ‘Atomic Heart’ will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
