Militant Killed In Bandipora
May 11: A militant who is believed to have infiltrated recently from Pakistan has been killed in an ongoing gunfight in Kashmir’s Bandipora district, police said on Wednesday.
The gun battle erupted between militants and security forces during a cordon and search operation in the Salinder forest area. “As the search party proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hidden terrorists fired indiscriminately.
This was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter,” a police officer said. Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said the slain was part of a newly infiltrated group. An AK rifle and three magazines were recovered.
Almost at the same time, another encounter broke out at Marhama Bijbehara in Anantnag district, also during a cordon and search operation. This is the third gunfight in Kashmir in last 24 hours. Two local militants of the Lashkar-e-Toiba were killed in Anantnag district on Tuesday
