Odisha Vigilance officials arrest a Deputy Executive Engineer in a DA case

Bhubaneswar, Dec 29: The sleuths of Vigilance department on Thursday arrested Bhawanipatna Municipality Deputy Executive Engineer Samir Kumar Thakur in Kalahandi district after he was found in possession of disproportionate assets 218 per cent higher than his known sources of income.


Thakur was forwarded to the court of Special Judge Vigilance, Bhawanipatna and the court remanded him to jail custody till January 9, 2023, next.

In this connection a case has been registered against Thakur and his spouse u/s 13(2)r/w 13(1)(b)/12 PC act, 1988 as Amended by PC (Amendment) Act 2018.


During house searches one triple-storied building worth approximately Rs one crore, one double-storied building worth approximately Rs 60 lakhs, three plots in and around Bhawanipatna and Rs 49,163 in cash were found in possession of Thakur.


In addition to its bank, postal and insurance deposits and investments in Mutual funds worth Rs 52.56 lakh, one four-wheeler worth rs 8.57 lakh, gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 8.71 lakh and household articles worth over Rs 11.73 lakhs were also unearthed.


Vigilance sources said after a through search, inventory and inquiry, Thakur was found in possession of disproportionate assets 218 per cent higher than his known sources of income.
An investigation of the case is in progress.
