Rape on dumb, deaf woman, 1 held

Thane , Jul 13 : With the arrest of one person from Kumbharwada of Thane city, the Kalyan police on Tuesday claimed to have solved the case of rape on a 23 year old woman in the town on July 02, the police said.
The Kalyan police stated in an official release that the victim was on her way to work place in the morning at around 5.00 a.m. and near a dilapidated railway quarter the accused dragged her to one of the structures and raped her and also snached her mobile and ran away.
The police registered the complaint based on the help provided by an interpreter under sections 376,376(2)(L),349 and 392 of the IPC with the MFC police station.
As many as five teams were formed to trace the accused and the police carried out a check in the surrounding areas including the shops and public places. The police also checked up in Thane, Kalyan, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai for the accused.

Upon checking the CCTV footage the police traced that the accused had seen the girl walking on the skywalk and crossed her while she was passing through the same.
Finally the police zeroed on the accused whose name was given as Ashiwin Rathwa, 18 years and six months originally from Gujarat.
He was arrested on Monday evening and produced before a local magistrate on Tuesday and remanded into police custody for four days the police said.
