BJP delegation meets EC over attack on Dilip Ghosh in WB

New Delhi : A BJP delegation led by Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Tuesday met the Election Commission (EC) over alleged mandhanding of the party’s national vice-president Dilip Ghosh in West Bengal, and demanded strict action against the concerned officials.

The visit of the BJP delegation comes a day after Ghosh was allegedly manhandled by TMC workers during his campaign for the Bhabanipur Assembly bypoll for party’s nominee Priyanka Tibrewal, who is fielded against West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee.

“We have met the EC officials over an attack on our party vice-president Dilip Ghosh by the TMC workers in West Bengal and demanded action against concerned officials. An audio of the incident was submitted,” Union Minister Bhupender Yadav, who accompanied Naqvi told reporters shortly after meeting the poll panel.

The BJP MP said,” We have apprised the EC that in West Bengal, polls and violence has become synonyms to each other. EC should make all arrangements so that people can cast their vote without fear. We have demanded that micro observes should be appointed during the Bhabanipur bypoll.”

“West Bengal government in its report submitted to the EC said that eight people were arrested. This is just an eyewash. This means attack did take place. It seems Didi (Mamata Banerjee) has more faith in violence unleashed by her party workers than election,’ Yadav said.

He also welcomed the poll panel’s decision for webcasting in all the polling stations during the Bhabanipur bypoll scheduled to be held on September 30.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur was also present.

Banerjee, who was defeated by the BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari in the Assembly polls this year, needs to win the election to keep her Chief Minister’s post. She had won the Bhabanipur seat twice in 2011 and 2016.

The result of the bypoll will be announced on October 3.
