Kendrapara : Police Tuesday arrested ten women and forwarded them to Court on the charges of assaulting, tonsuring , stripping a woman of Belatal village under Pattamundai Police station and painting her face black and white.
Pattamundai SDPO Sandhyarani Bhuria said all the accused were forwarded to a local court and the Court remanded them in jail custody after rejecting their bail plea.
The SDPO said efforts were on to arrest others involved in the incident.
Police arrested the women after Bindushree Dash, the victim, filed an FIR with the local police and a video of the incident went viral on social media.
Bindushree in her FIR alleged that some women, including some men, assaulted and tonsured her head and snatched her Mangal sutra , ATM Card and Rs 25,000 on September 17 last.
She said some people touched her private body parts.
As per the reports Bindushree , the wife of A Dash of Belatala village, was residing at her father’s house at Badahaat area under Kendrapada township.
Three months back she had allegedly collected a sum of Rs 1200 from some women of Belatala village to help them get loan.
She said as she could not get them loan she went to Belatala village on September 17 to return the money she collected from them.
But the women assaulted them following a kangaroo court order.
The whole episode of the kangaroo court was videographed by the villagers and it went viral later.
