Odisha: Covid surges to 10,43,745 with 276 new cases

Odisha: The covid tally in Odisha today surged to 10,43,745 with the detection of fresh 276 cases in the past 24 hours while the death toll rose to 8361 with four more fatalities reported in the health audit from three districts.

Health and Family Welfare department sources said out of 276 new cases,159 were reported from the quarantine centers and 117 as local contact cases from as many as 18 districts in Odisha. At least 55 cases, about 20 percent of the total new cases, were reported in the age group of 0 to 18years.

Khurdha district registered the highest number of 138 cases followed by Cuttack (17), Balasore (15)and 10 each in Jajpur and Dhenkanal districts. These five coastal districts together accounted for 190 cases, nearly 69 percent of the total new infections in the state.

Official sources said 347 covid patients were cured from the virus on Sunday taking the total recoveries in the state to 10,32,197 while the death toll rose to 8361 with four more covid deaths, two in Khurdha district and one each in Puri and Ganjam, recorded in the health audit process in the past 24 hours.

The active cases in the state further dropped to 3134 with Khurdha district registering the highest number of 1517 followed by Cuttack (297) and Jajpur (104). These three districts have accounted for 61.35 percent of the total active cases in the state. The other 27 districts however, recorded less than 100 active cases each.

The daily test positivity rate in the state further reduced to 0.46 percent in the past 24 hours. Only Khurdha district has the test positivity rate of 1.4 percent while the rest 29 districts have the test positivity rate less than one percent.
