‘Katakhya’ Smith Kishore Rath Passes Away

Odisha: Eminent cartoonist Kishore Rath passed away at the Bhubaneswar Capital Hospital on Monday morning. He was 58. He suffered a heart attack and breathed his last.

Born in 1963, Rath was a household name in Odisha for his cartoon column ‘Katakhya’ published in leading Odia daily ‘Sambad’. He was working for the Daily Odia newspaper ‘Sambad’ since the late eighties.

Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, Chairman, Sambad Group, expressed grief over Rath’s death. Expressing his condolences, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik tweeted, “I am saddened to learn about the death of popular cartoonist Kishore Rath. He will always be remembered for his unique style of presenting various issues of society through cartoons.”

Union Minister of Education and Skill Development Dharmendra Pradhan also expressed condolences over Rath’s demise.
