Heavy rainfall in Odisha : Capital breaks 63 years’, Puri of 87 years’ record
Bhubaneswar : Experiencing extremely heavy rainfall since Sunday in several parts of Odisha with Puri and Bhubaneswar witnessing all-time high rainfall today.
Bhubaneswar also broke its 63-year-old record as the capital city logged 195 mm rainfall between September 12 and 7.30 am, added Regional Meteorological Department in Bhubaneswar.
Earlier on September 5, 1958, the temple city recorded 163 mm rainfall in a day. Meanwhile, silver city recorded 150 mm rainfall in last 24 hrs. 200 pump sets have been engaged to discharge excess water from several localities, dry food have been arranged for residents trapped in rain water and water discharge process underway at Acharya Harihar Cancer hospital, informed Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Commissioner Ananya Das.
Likewise, Puri experienced highest 341 mm rainfall in 24 hours which broke the record of 87 years, as per a data released by the Regional Meteorological Department in Bhubaneswar recorded between 8.30 am of September 12 and 7.30 am today. Earlier on September 20, 1934, Puri had witnessed such rainfall when the city of Lord Jagannath had then noted 210.8 mm rainfall in a day.
