Bhubaneswar: The murder of Chitta Ranjan Palei, the security guard of senior BJD leader and Deputy Chairman of State Planning Board Sanjay Dasburma was handed over to the Odisha Crime Branch on Wednesday.
Odisha Director General of Police Abhay ordered that the investigation of the case be taken over by the Crime branch. The body of Palei was found floating after a 48-hour search in the Nuanai river on Monday with several injury marks. The family of the deceased had complained about the police on Saturday last that Chitaranjan had gone to attend a picnic along with some of his friends on Friday night and did not return.
Chitaranjan, a native of Sanabenakudi village, had been working as private security and bodyguard of BJD leader Sanjay Kumar Das Burma. The family members of Chittaranjan alleged his mysterious death as a well-planned murder and demanded a Crime Branch inquiry into the case.
IGP Narasingha Bhoi had visited the crime spot on Tuesday and constituted two special teams to inquire into the crime.
Based on the allegation made by Chitaranjan’ s family, the police detained his friend Jaganath Sarangi and four others in connection with the incident and interrogated them.
The murder of Chittaranjan has taken a political turn as the BJP demanded Mr Dasburma be brought under the purview of the CB investigation after the members of the deceased alleged his involvement in the murder.
BJP Legislator Lalitendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra at a press conference here on Tuesday demanded the removal of Mr. Dasburma from the state Planning board for a fair inquiry into the case and to examine the call records of Mr Dasburma, his PSO Biplab Dalai, Jaganath Sarangi and the deceased.
