Crorepati Officer Pays 58 Lakhs Only Annual Premium

Odisha: The State Vigilance had to take two days to count and complete searches on the houses and properties associated with Pratap Kumar Samal, the crorepati Deputy Manager of Odisha Police Housing and Welfare Corporation (OPHWC). Vigilance has found him in possession of properties to the tune of more than Rs. 10 crore.

While 25 plots unearthed during the searches have been valued at Rs. 3,41,58,412, including registration and stamp duty, the actual price is likely to be higher. The valuation of 5 storied Building at Gothapatna is Rs. 3,89,60,000, as per the self-declaration of Samal and his wife. Technical valuation of other buildings is being done by the Technical Wing of Odisha Vigilance.

Meanwhile, the bank accounts have been frozen and Samal has been arrested on charges of disproportionate assets by Vigilance. It’s beyond believe that, Samal and his family members have piled huge money in banks. The amount shows as; Rs. 1,61,35,812.50 and he pays Rs 57, 72, 150 as annual insurance premium. The Vigilance had launched simultaneous house searches on the properties of Samal on 9th Nov. on the allegation of possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. 10 teams of Odisha Vigilance conducted simultaneous raids on Search Warrants issued by the Court of Special Judge Vigilance,  at several places in Bhubaneswar, Balasore, Bhadrak and Simulia.
