Odisha: The seizure made the Deogarh police shake and shocked to the spine on Saturday. As the district police busted a racket selling snake venom worth around Rs 1.5 crore at Taranga village and arrested two smugglers. Not that huge but Deogarh Police seized a sealed container stored with 1ltr. snake venom from the accused.
Arrested accused have been identified as Ranjan Kumar Padhi of Sakhipada and Kailash Chandra Sahu from Sindurapanka village of Sambalpur district. Acting on a tip from intelligence, a special team of Deogarh police, played as prospective buyers and raided the hideout. “We had prior information that a gang was trying to sell snake venom to buyers in the area. We tracked their movement and finally nabbed them,” said a police official of Deogarh.
The district is further investing on to crack the Venom racket and the mastermind behind it. Police also curious to divulge the destination of this huge venomous deal. It is worthwhile to mention that earlier on March 28th this year, snake venom worth Rs 1.30 crore had been seized from Bhubaneswar. Six smugglers of Bolangir were arrested by Forest Police, while making a sell deal at Bhubaneswar.
According to sources snake venom is usually used as medicine, but some abuse it for intoxication and inebriation as well.
