WCDC to open creches for children of women employed at jails

Patna: Female employees of Bihar Jail, both permanent and contractual can have Creche facility soon. With help of Bihar Prison service, the Women and Children Development Corporation(WCDC) will establish creches in 10 jails of 8 chosen districts to provide a safe and better care for the children of the women employed in Bihar Jails.

Speaking about this initiative Managing Director of Women and Children Development corporation Ms. Harjot Kaur Bumrah said here today that, the amount for the establishment of the nursery will be provided by the Women and Child Development Corporation and its maintenance and operation will be the responsibility of the concerned organization. She said that Children from 0 to 5 years would be taken care of in these creches.

In the first phase, creches would be made at Model Central Prison Beur, Patna, Central and Divisional Prison Buxar, Central Prison Motihari, Central Prison Betia, Shaheed Khudiram Bose Central Prison Muzaffarpur, Central Prison Purnia, Shaheed Jubba Sahni Central Prison and Special Prison Bhagalpur, and Central Prison Ara.

Ms.  Bumrah said that under “Mukhyamantri Nari Shakti Yojna’ approved by the state legislature, there is a provision for the establishment of creches. If 25 or more women are working in an organization and they have children with them, then such creches can be established.

She said that the commission was dedicated to the cause of women’s empowerment and for this many programs are being run in coordination with Women and Children Development Commission and Social Welfare Department.
