He also said that the TMC had requested Governor Jagdeep Dhankar to administer the oath of office to Mamata Banerjee at the State Assembly.

Responding to the request, Dhankar said he would wait until the official gazette notification on the Bhabanipur by-election is issued.

“Raj Bhawan response on the administration of Oath/Affirmation to the Members elected to the WBLA in bye-election from 159-Bhabanipur A/C, and the adjourned poll in 56-Samserganj and 58-Jangipur A/Cs held on September 30, 2021. Once Gazetted Governor would take call.” Tweeted the official handle of the West Bengal Governor.

On October 3, after the victory in Bhabanipur, Jangipur and Shamsherganj constituency, a request was made to the West Bengal Governor by the state that the Bengal assembly speaker should be given the responsibility to administer the oath to the newly- elected MLS’s on October 4.

Mamata Banerjee on Sunday secured the Bhabanipur constituency by beating her BJP rival Priyanka Tibrewal by more than 58,000 votes, the Election Commission of India announced.

Election Commission of India (ECI) reported, All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee gained 84,709 votes while Priyanka Tibrewal bagged 26,320 votes. On the other hand, Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Srijib Biswas got 4,201 votes.

State minister Sovandeb Chattopadhyay who won the assembly election from the Bhabanipur constituency in May vacated the seat after Mamata Banerjee lost the assembly election from the Nandigram constituency earlier this year. Mamata was required to win to retain the chief minister’s chair position by November 5 of this year.

After her victory, Banerjee claimed that the Centre had hatched conspiracies to remove TMC from power since the elections started in West Bengal.

Further, responding to a query on TMC and other leaders of the political parties were not allowed in the Lakhimpur Kheri district, Uttar Pradesh, Partha Chatterjee asserted, “This is BJP culture. They are scared of TMC and Mamata Banerjee.”
