Indore Cleanest and The Ganges Cleanest at Varanasi

New Delhi: Consecutively for the fifth time Indore won the cleanest city award in ‘Swachh Survekshan 2021’, Surat of Gujrat and Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh holds second and third position respectively. Varanasi has recognized as “the cleanest Ganga town” in the survey, while Chhattisgarh was adjudged the cleanest state in the country. Ahmedabad cantonment was named the cleanest cantonment in the country. Maharashtra got more than one reason to cheer as Vita got the award for cleanest city with under one lakh population, while Lonawala grabbed the second spot in this category.

Making it the world’s largest urban cleanliness survey, a total of 4,320 cities were covered in the sixth edition of the Swachh Survekshan 2021.

Swachh Survekshan is an annual survey of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation in cities and towns across India. It was launched as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, which aimed at making India clean and free of open deification by October 2, 2019.

On Saturday, the ceremony was held at Vigyan Bhawan with the august presence of Honorable President Ram Nath Kovind. Union Urban Minister Hardeep Singh Puri was among other leaders and dignitaries graced the event. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan congratulated the people of Indore for achieving the feat for the fifth time successively by posting messages on Twitter.

Bharatiya Janata Party National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya also took to the micro-blogging site to congratulate the “Indoris and the cleaning workers” of the city.
