New Delhi, Jul 7 : The Delhi High Court on Wednesday granted interim protection from arrest to digital media portal Newsclick’s founder Prabir Purkayastha, in connection with a Delhi Police FIR concerning foreign funding.After hearing the anticipatory bail plea filed by Purkayastha, Justice Yogesh Khanna issued notice and sought a status report from Delhi Police.The court also sought a reply and granted interim protection from arrest to Newsclick director Pranjal Pandey on his anticipatory bail plea in the First Information Report (FIR).As per the FIR filed by Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in August 2020, foreign direct investment was received by PPK News Click Studio Private Limited from Worldwide Media Holdings LLC, United States.Adv Kapil Sibal, appearing for Purkayastha, told the court that funding from the US-based company was received by the Newsclick in the year when there was no cap on FDI.The bench said it would pass a detailed order on the pleas later in the day
