Coonoor crash: Lone survivor no more, Group Captain Varun Singh passes away

Chandigarh, December 15: The only survivor of the Tamil Nadu helicopter crash Group Captain Varun Singh succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning. sustained in chopper crash of Dec 8. The IAF announced his death in a tweet.

He was the lone survivor of the crash in which CDS Gen Bipin Rawat and 12 others had died in Tamil Nadu on December 8.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the death. “Group Captain Varun Singh served the nation with pride, valour and utmost professionalism. I am extremely anguished by his passing away. His rich service to the nation will never be forgotten. Condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti,” the PM said.

The head of India’s armed forces, General Bipin Rawat, was among 13 people killed on the military helicopter they were travelling in crashed. They were en route from an air force base to Wellinton military college in the southern state of Tamil Nadu when the Russian-made Mi-17V5 helicopter came down near the town of Coonoor.sac
