Rahul demands justice for murdered Kanpur businessman

New Delhi : Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday demanded justice for Kanpur based businessman Manish Gupta who was allegedly killed at a Gorakhpur hotel during a police raid and said that the party stands with the deceased family in their fight for justice.
Rahul Gandhi’s reaction came after the victim’s wife Meenakshi Gupta in a video, which went viral, had demanded justice and accused the police and hotel staff of a cover-up.
Taking to twitter, Rahul Gandhi said, “Very sad to see the painful video of Meenakshi Gupta ji. My condolences to the family of Manish Gupta ji”.
“I am with you in this fight against the injustice of the BJP government. Will take justice – as a right, not a favour,” he added.
The family of a deceased businessman who died under suspicious circumstances at a Gorakhpur hotel on Tuesday has alleged that he was beaten to death by police during a raid.
Manish Gupta, a 38-year-old property dealer from Kanpur, died in a hotel in Gorakhpur on Tuesday.
However the police had claimed that Manish Gupta died of a head injury sustained from falling to the ground in a state of drunkenness.
On Wednesday, Kanpur DM and Police Commissioner met the victim‘s wife and assured all possible help to the family.
Meanwhile, a case under section 302 IPC has been registered against six policemen and a search operation has been initiated to nab them.
