Presidential Polls 2022: NDA’s Draupadi Murmu To File Nomination Today

New Delhi, June 24: National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate for the post of President Draupadi Murmu is set to file her nomination on Friday.

Murmu arrived in the national capital from her home state Odisha and met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP president JP Nadda on Thursday.

The former Jharkhand governor will file her nomination in the presence of other senior leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to be the first proposer. Senior BJP leaders and leaders of some other parties will also be among the proposers.

Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United), Odisha Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik, The YSR Congress led by Jagan Mohan Reddy has also announced its support to the candidature of Murmu.

During the nomination, two senior ministers of the government of Odisha will be present as representatives of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD).

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha running a coalition government with Congress in Jharkhand, is also likely to support the candidature of Murmu for the post of President of India.

Murmu has sought cooperation from everyone for the upcoming polls. She will begin her campaign from June 25 to seek support from the political parties to help her get elected as the President.

The BJP has appointed a 14 member team led by Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to coordinate the electioneering process for the July 18 presidential election.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a tweet, said that Murmu’s understanding of grassroots problems and vision for India’s development is “outstanding.”

Murmu is expected to be the first President from the tribal community.

The Opposition has fielded former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha against Draupadi Murmu.

Sinha whose name was announced by senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh will file his nomination papers on June 27.
