Photojournalist Killed In Yemen’s Taiz

Aden, Yemen, March 23: A photojournalist was killed by unknown gunmen in Yemen’s southwestern province of Taiz on Wednesday, a police officer told Xinhua. “Fawaz Al-Wafi, an independent photojournalist, was stabbed to death by unknown assailants in the turbulent province of Taiz,” the local police officer said on condition of anonymity. He explained that “the body of Al-Wafi was found inside his own car in Wadi Al-Qadi area, and he was stabbed several times in different areas of his body.”
The official said that the local authorities are conducting investigations into the incident, and an official clarification will be issued later. The motives behind the incident are not yet known, and no one has claimed responsibility for the killing. A number of journalists and photographers were assassinated by unidentified assailants during the past years in various areas of the war-ravaged Arab country. Yemen has been locked into a civil war since the Iran-backed Houthi militias overran much of the country and seized all northern provinces, including the capital Sanaa, in 2014.
