In an atmosphere where every morning,our news channel greet us with stories of girls being tormented, raped, killed or treated like a doormat in one way or another, trust India’s “village republics” to bring in some good news from time to time.
Reportedly, Sarojini Agarwal, the sarpanch of Bhaleswar panchayat of Nuapada block of the district has announced that 50 trees will be planted for every birth of a girl child as a message to curb gender discrimination in various forms.
Taking to Twitter, Sarojini shared the information with the State government and the district administration and said this is an effort to create awareness among locals to honour the girl child.
