CBI Questions TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee’s Wife Rujira At Her South Kolkata Residence
Kolkata, June 14: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday questioned Rujira Banerjee, wife of Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, at her south Kolkata residence in connection with an alleged multi-crore coal scam case in West Bengal, official sources said.
They said a team of federal agency officers began questioning Rujira Banerjee at her Harish Chatterjee Street residence in Kalighat area from 11:30 on-wards at a time when Abhishek Banerjee, the MP from Diamond Harbour, left for Tripura for campaigning.
Before this Rujira was first questioned by the CBI in February 2021 for nearly four hours at her residence.
Sources said the CBI probing the coal smuggling following a Calcutta High Court directive got some new clue and hence the questioning of Rujira Banerjee.
Meanwhile, the ruling TMC slammed the CBI’s move and described it as a witch-hunt.
“Political witch-hunt by the Centre is shameful”, an All India Trinamool Congress communique said.
“Minutes after our national general secretary Abhisekh Banerjee lands in Agartala ( Tripura), “remote control” CBI spring into action, Your fear is evident @BJP4India, but we won’t back down,” the communique added.
