Dr Shashi Tharoor expresses doubt over presence of Keralites in Taliban
Thiruvananthapuram : Dr Shashi Tharoor, MP, representing this Lok Sabha constituency on Tuesday expressed his doubt over the presence of Keralites in Taliban who have seized power in Afghanistan.
Sharing a video of Taliban in his Twitter account, Tharoor said, “It sounds as if there are at least two Malayali Taliban here — one who says “samsarikkette” around the 8-second mark & another who understands him!.”
Responding to a comment, Tharoor also tweeted that “Interesting explanation. WIll leave it to the linguists to figure this one out. But there have indeed been misguided Malayalis who joined the Taliban, so that possibility cannot be ruled out entirely.”
According to unconfirmed reports, four Malayali women including Nimisha (Fathima) who were languishing in an Afghan prison, have been released by the Taliban.
Thiruvananthapuram-based Nimisha (Fathima) left for Syria along with her husband fled to Syria to join the Islamic State when she was pregnant in 2016. Later, she left for Afghanistan where she surrendered before the Afghanistan Law Enforcement in Khorasan province along with a group of IS fighters.
Earlier, Nimisha’s mother Bindu Sampath had alleged that her daughter was converted to Islam as part of ‘love jihad’ and left Kerala under the pretext of going to Sri Lanka for religious studies.
There were reports that Nimisha, whose husband died in a battle, was lodged in a jail in Kabul along with nine other Indian widows who left the country to fight for IS.
