A two-member central team arrives to assess Covid situation in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Jul 4 (UNI) A two-member Central team arrived here today to assess the situation and recommend measures to control the rising incidents of covid positive cases in Odisha during the last few days.The team consisted of Dr Shibani Dutta, a Professor of AIIH&PH, Kolkata and Prof Prashant Raghab Mohapatra of AIIMS, Bhubaneswar.The Union government has also rushed central teams to Kerala, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Chhattisgarh and Manipur, the states reporting high covid positive cases during the last few days to review the covid situation.Prof Dutta told newspersons at the Airport here that they would visit the districts having high covid positive cases.Odisha today reported the highest single-day covid deaths of 52 pushing the total death toll to 4,248 so far. The state also reported 2803 new covid cases in the past 24 hours.Khordha registered the highest number of 475 cases followed by Cuttack ( 441), Mayurbhanj (193), Balasore (155) and Puri ( 154).The team would review treatment facilities available in hospitals, contract tracing, vaccination, surveillance activities, covid management and submit a report to the central government.They are also scheduled to examine whether the hospitals are equipped with sufficient numbers of beds and ventilators.The team is scheduled to meet the health officials of the state government before their field visit.
