Odisha heatwave: IMD forecasts drop in day temperature
Bhubaneswar: In a relief to the people of Odisha who have been reeling under scorching heat for the last few days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday predicted a drop in the day temperature at many places in the state.
Despite the sweltering heat conditions persisting on Saturday as well, a drop in the mercury level was recorded at some places during the day as compared to Friday. Jharsuguda recorded the hottest temperature at 42.2 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal.
Although the maximum temperature of the district was 42.8 degree Celsius on Friday. Similarly, the day temperature in Talcher was 42 degrees Celsius, which was 0.6 degrees lower than the day before. However, Bhubaneswar saw a rise of 41.7 degrees in the day temperature.
In Cuttack, no change was observed in the temperature as the city recorded 41.2 degrees Celsius on Friday and Saturday.“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely to occur in some parts of the state between Sunday and Wednesday.
Umashankar Das, scientist at Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, said the rain activity would be due to the expected re-introduction of moisture from the Bay of Bengal.
