Naveen asks state machinery to remain prepared to counter any possible natural calamities
Bhubaneswar, June 17 : Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday asked the state Administrative machinery to remain prepared to counter any possible natural disaster.
Presiding over the state level Natural Disaster Management Committee meeting through video conference, Patnaik said every life precious is the policy of the state disaster management
programme.
He said Odisha, a disaster prone state, has become a leading state in disaster management by following this policy.
The Chief Minister said every year the period from June to October is very important as many natural calamities like flood, cyclone and drought hit the state during this period.
He said we need to remain prepared and strengthen the rescue and relief system, information system, health and drinking water system in advance to counter the natural calamities.
Patnaik asked the officials to stock adequate quantity of food in inaccessible and disaster prone areas, operationalise the district emergency centres 24×7 and to keep the ODRAF and Fire service ready to face any eventuality.
He also directed the offiicials to take special care of the widow, senior citizen, pregnant women, children and PWD persons.
Revenue and Diaster Management Minister Pramila Mallik said 55 more flood and cyclone shelter homes are being constructed with funds from the Chief Minister’s relief Fund. She said the state has now 879 flood and cyclone shelter centres.
