Celebrating ‘Nari Shakti’ during Navratri, which began on March 22, PM Modi said that women had a big role in India emerging from a new perspective. “You must have seen Asia’s first female loco pilot Surekha Yadav on social media. She has become the first woman loco pilot of Vande Bharat Express as well. This month, producer Guneet Monga and director Kartiki Gonsalves brought laurels to the country by winning an Oscar for their documentary, ‘The Elephant Whisperers’.
Jyotirmayee Mohanty, scientist of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, has also notched another achievement for the country. She has received a special award from IUPAC in the field of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering,” he said.
Daughter of renowned paediatrician Dr. Baikuntnath Patra of Chauliaganj in Cuttack, Jyotirmayee is a scientist at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, and is also the first woman to receive a fellowship in Science and Engineering Research Board.
She has also been conferred with a fellowship from the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) in the United Kingdom.
Earlier, CM Naveen Patnaik had heaped praises on her through a tweet. He wrote, “I congratulate the Odia scientist Jyotirmayee Mohanty, who has been selected for the prestigious IUPAC Award 2023 as the country’s first woman. Her achievement in the field of chemistry is a matter of pride and glory for all. I wish her to scale greater heights of success in the coming days.”
Similarly, BJP National Vice President, Baijayant Panda also heaped praises on Jyotirmayee and said, “PM Modi’s Mann Ki Baat is historic. It has never happened that such a beautiful message has reached nearly 140 crore people across India through TV, social media, and radio.”
“Every month, PM Narendra Modi tries to inspire people with his examples from different places. Today, he spoke about Jyotirmayee Mohanty who has earned IUPAC Award 2023. It is a moment of pride for everyone. By this, many young girls can be inspired in every sector and every field including Army, Police Force, Scientists and many more,” said Panda.
“PM’s way of inspiring people through beautiful examples is welcoming and inspires a lot of people to work for their own place, country. It is not a political work, but a way to spread love and peace in the country. Such programme was only done by American President Franklin D. Roosevelt. PM Modi will address the nation during his 100th episode next month and BJP will try to make it a special moment,” he concluded.
On the personal front, Jyotirmayee is married to Rasmiranjan Mohanty, also a scientist and native of Titira village under Balikuda block in Jagatsinghpur district.
