Three decades is not a small period to heel any wound. But, the scars and agonies inflicted on some women 30 years ago have not been healed yet. Those womens’ eyes remained stoned by dismay and fear in Vachathi in Tamil Nadu. Now a story retold.
It was not merely the notorious brigand Veerappan but allegedly the local cops did worse than what the forest bandit did. En masses they preyed on women and allegedly raped them while searching for Veerappan then.
Even the courts physical ground zero visits in 1992 found the story a touching one of barbaric rape of women by cops in Dharmapuri of Tamil Nadu .
It has been long three decades and few survivors who escaped the menacing lust of cops are still in the courts seeking justice.
The cases are hanging in courts including Madras High Court and the women are running around since for even expenses of the court cases, let alone justice.
The court reserved the judgment on criminal appeals pending since 2011 against the conviction of 215 persons who were allegedly involved in the crime.
It was a pure case of protector turned predators when the accused cops left the indelible scars of their bestial lust on the women.
“ It is case of history of social moral being taken for granted by a few while a majority including legal apparatus remain reduced to nuts. The media even has fallen short of a hot pursuit” laments Pramod Raghavan a senior TV journalist of TN.
