Bhubaneswar: The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed that the ongoing Covid pandemic severity is currently declining. However, the people need to be cautious like before. The possible third wave of coronavirus will be ascertained only after taking the current situation of Odisha into consideration, said Health Services Director Bijay Mohapatra.
The Odisha government has decided to allow pharmacists to treat and prescribe medicines for certain ailments – malaria, fever and upper respiratory tract infection – in absence of doctors. The Health Department has issued an official order in this regard.
Similarly, the Director of Health & Family Welfare Bijay Panigrahi informed that a total of 4,05,000 doses of Covid vaccines have been inoculated on Wednesday while 2,87,00,000 including the second dose. Out of this, 2,10,00,000 people have been given the first dose while 77,00,000 people jabbed with second dose.
The names of remaining people who have not yet received the Covid vaccine jabs have been listed at the district level and it is the responsibility of the front-line workers to make sure that they get inoculated at the vaccination centres as soon as possible, added Director Panigrahi. The vaccination drive is currently underway at 1800 centres today with a target of more than four lakh.
Many people, reportedly, have been seen to skip the second dose of Covid vaccination due to their busy schedule after the first jab. Hence, a SMS are being sent to some people for their second dose while others will be brought to the vaccination centres by front-line workers as per the list, further added Panigrahi.
