Bareilly (UP), Jan 5 : Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and former minister Bhagwat Saran Gangawar along with eight others have been declared absconder by an MP-MLA court in an attempt to murder and assault case, a public prosecutor said on Thursday.
Special Public Prosecutor Achint Dwivedi said that a charge sheet was filed against SP leader Bhagwat Saran and eight others in the MP-MLA court in 2017 in connection with an attempted murder and assault case that took place in Nawabganj. “Despite a non-bailable warrant (NBW) issued by the court the accused did not appear before the court. Even the police failed to arrest them,” he said.
He said that the court on Wednesday declared Bhagwat Saran, Vir Pal Singh Gangwar, Vinod Diwakar, Anil Gangwar, Tarun alias Yogendra Singh Gangwar, Omendra, Purushottam, Sher Singh and Sudhir Kumar Mishra. “The court has fixed January 11 as the next date of hearing. One of the accused Gopal Gupta has been granted bail,” he said.
Dwivedi said that on the last date of hearing the police submitted a report that the former minister was residing in Prem Nagar area instead of his ancestral house. “On this the court ordered the Prem Nagar police to arrest him. Later the court also wrote a letter to the Senior Superintendent of Police citing laxity on the part of the police to arrest the accused,” they said.
