Khordha: A total of 11.31 lakh birds of 184 species were counted during the enumeration drive carried out in the Chilika Lagoon on Wednesday.
Among the 11.31 lakh birds, 10.93 were migratory birds and 38,000 were of local species. 57,000 more birds were recorded during the census, informed Ramaswamy P, Divisional Forest Officer of Chilika Wild Life Division, Balugaon.
The bird census had been carried out by 21 teams in five ranges – Chilika, Balugaon, Satapada, Tangi, and Rambha – under Chilika Wild Life Division.
