Bhubaneswar: Freedom fighter Biswanath Das, popularly known as Balikuda Gandhi, passed away while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College in Cuttack. He was 105.
Das, a resident of Bhagaban Sindhola village under Balikuda tehsil in Jagatsinghpur district, was suffering from age related ailments for long.
He was inspired from Mahatma Gandhi and active in the freedom struggle from his student days.
Das played a major role in the Quit India movement and was imprisoned during Quit India Movement in 1942 and 1943.
He had been honoured by the then President Pranab Mukherjee in 2012 and for the second time by the then President Ram Nath Kovind in 2020.
