Cuttack : The Commissionerate police on Wednesday arrested the accused in the 2014 murder of a pulses trader Mohammad Farooq at Malgodown in Cuttack and one pistol with two rounds of live ammunition was seized from his possession.
The arrested accused has been identified as Shankar alias Deepak Kumar Nayak.
In November 24,2014 Farooq Farook was seating in his shop at Malgodown , when the accused person and his associate came on motorcycle,opened fire at him and fled from the spot.
During the investigation at that time, four accused persons involved in the crime were arrested, but Shankar was absconding for the last seven years.
On a basis of reliable information, Commissionerate police reached at Cuttack Railway Station and arrested Shankar while he was about to leave Cuttack for Chennai. One pistol with two rounds of live ammunition was seized from his possession.
During interrogation, he confessed to the involvement in the crime. They committed the crime per the direction of gangster brothers Sushi and Sushant Dhala Samanta. The motive behind the murder of Farook was his refusal to pay extortion money.
Later, he was taken to the crime spot for scene recreation by the police.
Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court here had granted permission to Twin City Commissionerate police for re-investigation into the murder of Mohammad Farooq alias Mohammed Farook Tayeb who as shot dead in his shop at Malgodown area here in November, 2004.Notably, the kin of the deceased had knocked on doors of Commissionerate Police seeking reinvestigation in the case.It may be recalled that Farooq, a pulses wholesaler was shot dead in broad daylight by three motorcycle-borne miscreants who had indiscriminately opened fired at him. The criminals pumped five bullets killing him on the spot.The deceased trader’s wife Ishrat Jahaan had approached the Commissionerate police and filed a fresh complaint against Dhalsamanta brothers for their alleged involvement in her husband’s murder.
