Never Associated Moosewala With Gangsters: Punjab DGP
Chandigarh, May 30: Following intervention of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab Director General of Police V. K. Bhawra on Monday clarified his statement and said he “has never affiliated Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala with gangsters”.
Mann has sought a clarification on a statement by the DGP during his press conference here hours after the Sunday murder of Moosewala.
Clarifying his statement, DGP Bhawra said that he has the highest respects for Sidhu Moosewala and he is a celebrated artist and cultural icon of Punjab. He condemned the murder of Sidhu Moosewala in strongest terms and said the investigation is going on and the perpetrators would be arrested soon to deliver the justice.
DGP Bhawra said that on no occasion, he has ever said that Sidhu Moosewala is a gangster or affiliated with gangsters. Claims and counter claims by various persons on the gangster angle has been trending on social media.
Bhawra said one Goldy Brar has claimed responsibility on behalf of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The investigation would look into all aspects of the murder.
DGP Bhawra stated that he has been misquoted by a section of the media and he has the highest regards for Sidhu Moosewala.
The 29-year-old singer-rapper was on Sunday ambushed and killed on a road in Mansa district.
In the press conference hours after his killing, police said Moosewala left his house around 4.30 pm with two others. He was driving a Mahindra Thar SUV, and according to the police his father was following him in another car.
CCTV footage on social media and other media has showed two cars trailing the SUV. The video has not been verified by the state police. When the SUV reached the village Jawaharke, it was intercepted and blocked by two cars, as per reports.
There was heavy firing from the front on Moosewala and he died on the spot.
Villagers at first took it for firecrackers but soon raced to the spot. His father took him to hospital, where he was declared dead.
The police initially said the killing appeared to be revenge for the murder of an Akali leader, Vicky Middukhera, last year.
