Bilawal Meets Pakistan Speaker After Session Adjourns
Islamabad, April 9: After Pakistan National Assembly was adjourned on Saturday, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari met Speaker Asad Qaiser at his chamber urging him not to delay the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan. Geo News quoted Bilawal as saying that if the voting doesn’t take place, it will be considered a violation of the Supreme Court’s order, adding that “it is the speaker’s responsibility to carry out the court’s decision and the voting is to be held today.” In response, the Speaker said that the session was convened as per the orders of the Supreme Court.
“Whatever I do, I will do it according to the rules and regulations,” he added. The meeting was also attended by several MNAs including Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Naveed Qamar. On Thursday, the SC had ordered the Speaker to hold the no-trust motion on Saturday at all costs. It also warned that Speaker would face contempt of court if he violated the order. According to Geo News, the top court’s directives came after Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial took suo motu notice of Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri’s ruling and the subsequent dissolution of the assembly, declaring all the decisions unconstitutional.
