Stripping Incident: Cong Rains Fire, MPHRC Seeks Report
Sidhi/Bhopal, Apr 8: The number of police officers placed under suspension – in the wake of the April 2 incident at Kotwali Police Station in Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi district headquarters – rose to two on Friday, it was officially learnt.
A ‘social media journalist’ and about half-a-dozen others were nearly stripped while in custody and related photographs went viral. The accused were later granted bail.
It is said that certain persons were ceaselessly writing on the Internet against influential local politicians. After a police complaint was lodged, an individual was arrested. Some individuals staged a sit-in against this act and were sloganeering when they were detained.
Disciplinary action was initiated against Inspector Manoj Soni and Sub-Inspector Abhishek Singh Parihar – who is the Station House Officer, Amiliya.
Meanwhile at state Headquarters, Additional DGP (Grievances) Ashok Awasthi appointed SSP (Radio) Amit Singh as the investigating officer and the latter is to submit a report in a period not exceeding three days. The episode assumed political hues with the principal-opposition Congress roasting the dispensation and law-enforcement system alike.
Taking cognizance of the matter, the state Human Rights Commission sought a report – within a week – from the DGP and the IG (Rewa Zone).
