Four Held For Circulating Counterfeit Currency
Puducherry, March 9: Police arrested four persons on charges of circulating counterfeit currency here on Tuesday night. According to police, two persons came to a liquor shop in Thiruvalluvar Saalai late last evening and gave a Rs 500 note after purchasing liquor. The manager of the liquor shop Prabhakaran on inspecting the note found it to be counterfeit currency and caught hold of the two with the help of liquor shop workers and informed the police. Orleanpet police came to the spot and investigated and took the two who were later identified as Jayapal and Manoj Kumar to the police station.
On confirmation, that it was counterfeit currency note that the two gave at the liquor shop, Police arrested them. On interrogation, they confessed that one Saran gave them the currency notes following which police arrested Saran also. Saran informed the police that one Kamal gave him the currency notes leading to the arrest of Kamal too. On interrogation, Kamal informed the police that he got the counterfeit currency notes from a gang in Chennai. Police arrested the four and seized counterfeit currency notes to the tune of Rs 2.42 lakh, four cell phones and one autorickshaw from their possession. The four were produced before a judge here and remanded to judicial custody. A special police team rushed to Chennai in search of the gang which supplied the counterfeit currency notes.
