72 Year Old Fake Doctor Held Following Death Of 5 Persons, Know Details
Mumbai: Tokawade police detained a 72-year-old fake doctor who worked as a security guard for the Primary Health Department before retiring in 2009 and opening his own clinic.
The 72 year old fake doctor is accused of prescribing medications to tribals in the surrounding areas despite not having a medical degree. When five people in the village died recently, the police arrested him.
Pandurang Gholap was named as the suspect. According to social organizers, there are a lot of these phoney doctors in the neighborhood.
“This week, five villagers of Milhe Katkarwadi and Dhasai village, including a three-month-old pregnant woman, died abruptly while receiving treatment under Gholap,” said Dinesh Jadhav of Adivasi Kranti Sena, an NGO. “When their condition worsened, their relatives realised they had been given the improper treatment and transferred them to different hospitals. We have a government hospital 5 kilometres away where we only get treatment for fever, cough, and other minor ailments, and the poor find it difficult to drive to Thane Civil Hospital, so they choose to seek care here.”
“We have arrested the culprit, Gholap, under IPC 304A and other sections of IPC,” Assistant Police Inspector Santosh Darade said. “He supplied medicines to five patients, and within two weeks, all of them were seriously ill, and all of them died. We are looking into the situation further and have taken him into jail for four days.”
