Khurda, Jan 17: A woman in Khordha district was set ablaze by her Rakhi brother. She sustained burn injuries after her ‘rakhi brother’ allegedly torched her following an argument on Monday.
The victim has been identified as Mamuni Mania, a native of Padmapur village under Balipatna police limits.
According to locals, the accused, Sanatan had an argument with Mamuni on Monday morning. Aggravated by the situation, Sanatan poured kerosene on Mamuni and set her on fire.
Balipatna Police on being informed by the locals reached the spot and rushed Mamuni to the Nimapada Hospital.
She was subsequently shifted to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar and then to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after her condition worsened.
Sources have informed that the victim is in a critical condition with 50 percent of her body burned.
Meanwhile, the Balipatna police has taken the accused Sanatan into custody and are questioning him. However, the real cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained.
