Kashmir Braces For Rains, Snowfall
Srinagar, Jan 17: Night temperature across the Kashmir Valley improved amid a cloudy sky on Monday and a forecast for more light rains and snowfall.
The Meteorological Department said a western disturbance was affecting Jammu and Kashmir. This could trigger light rains and snow in many places in Kashmir and a few places in Jammu region between Monday and Tuesday morning.
Wednesday could see similar rains and snow in the plains of Kashmir, with the possibility of a few inches of snow accumulation in the higher reaches till Thursday. Rains and snowfall were also possible in Jammu region.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Kashmir, recorded a low of 1 degree Celsius against minus 1.2 degrees the previous night. It drizzled in Srinagar on Monday.
Gulmarg in north Kashmir was cold at minus 4.6 degrees Celsius against minus 7 degrees a day ago, which was 3.1 degrees above normal for this time of the year.
Pahalgam in south Kashmir shivered at minus 3.6 degrees Celsius. The temperature at Qazigund, on the Srinagar-Jammu highway, was minus 1 degrees.
Kupwara was hit by 0.5 degrees Celsius but an improvement against the minus 2.1 degrees the previous night.
Leh in Ladakh recorded minus 13.1 degrees Celsius and Drass recorded a low of minus 16.2 degrees.
